Description:

LECTURER/SENIOR LECTURER/ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR
(REF: 2377) CENTRE FOR MICROSCOPY,
CHARACTERISATION & ANALYSIS

A CAMECA IMS 1280 high-resolution ion microprobe is to be installed in the Centre for Microscopy, Characterisation and Analysis (CMCA) at The University of Western Australia, in Perth (cmca.uwa.edu.au). The ion microprobe will be a flagship instrument of the Australian Microscopy and Microanalysis Research Facility (AMMRF), a national infrastructure joint venture of Australian university-based microscopy and microanalysis centres that provides state-of-the-art analytical capabilities to enable world-class research (ammrf.org.au). With the existing Cameca NanoSIMS 50, the new instrument will create a truly unique world-class geochemical analysis laboratory at UWA.

The University is also a major partner in the John de Laeter Centre for Mass Spectroscopy, a consortium that includes two SHRIMP-II ion microprobes. The CMCA boasts a diverse range of other analytical capabilities and characterisation techniques, from high-resolution SEM and TEM, to laser-confocal microscopy.

We are seeking to appoint a highly motivated, self-guided academic to manage the CAMECA 1280 ion microprobe as a world-class research facility. The appointment will be made as Lecturer, Senior Lecturer, or Associate Professor, depending on qualifications and experience. The successful candidate will have a record of outstanding achievement relative to opportunity and aspire to reach the pinnacle of academic achievement, with a focus on quality and impact. They will be motivated to form interdisciplinary collaborations and be capable of successfully conducting them at a high professional standard. The successful candidate will have a strong work ethic, a practical approach, and be passionate about getting results.

This is an exciting opportunity to combine state-of-the-art analytical facilities with one of Nature’s greatest natural laboratories - Western Australia. The University of Western Australia occupies a picturesque setting by the Swan River five minutes from downtown Perth and ten minutes from Perth’s famous beaches. Located on Australia’s west coast, Perth enjoys a Mediterranean climate with hot dry summers and short mild winters and is renowned for its relaxed outdoor lifestyle.

Applicants with teaching experience are requested to submit a teaching portfolio as part of their application.
