GENERAL SUMMARY: The National
Resource for Imaging Mass Spectrometry (NRIMS,
www.nrims.hms.harvard.edu) is looking for someone to
assist in developing applications of Multi-isotope Imaging
Mass Spectrometry (MIMS) to biomedical research.
Under the supervision of the PI, oversee and
coordinate the day-to-day operation of the laboratory,
analyze and summarize data and results, maintain research
protocols, perform some sample preparation, and assist in
writing grants and manuscripts. This position is part of a
NIH-supported research effort to develop the biomedical
applications of a novel quantitative imaging mass
spectrometer methodology.
NRIMS is involved in over 20 collaborative projects
worldwide. NRIMS is part of Brigham and Women's Hospital
and Harvard Medical School, and is an affiliated core
laboratory of the Harvard-MIT Division of Health Sciences
and Technology.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Manage workflow of lab and schedule analysis for
multiple collaborative projects
- Analyze quantitative images of biological samples
using advanced imaging and statistical techniques
- Maintain logbooks, spreadsheets, tables and figures
of data and results
- Analyze, interpret, and write summaries of results,
as soon as data is acquired
- Assist in writing manuscripts
- Help set-up experiments
- Mount, photograph and document samples for
analysis
- Some preparation of cell culture, standards and
histological samples for analysis with a state-of-the-art
imaging mass spectrometer
- Follow existing sample preparation protocols as well
as develop and document new protocols
- Interact with collaborators from over 20 different
labs worldwide
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS:
- Ph.D in physical sciences, biology or chemistry
- Excellent organizational and quantitative
skills
- Knowledge of statistics and familiarity with
statistical packages
- Image and data analysis experience
- Good level of computer literacy (knowledge of
Linux/UNIX helpful) - Some programming experience
helpful
- Some experience with cell culture and histological
preparation of tissues is desirable
